COMICS GALLERY CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY WITH HELLBOY PARTY

Santa Fe, NM - March 15, 2004 - True Believers Comics & Gallery - Santa Fe's only comic-book specialty shop, and one of the only comic art galleries worldwide - will be celebrating its first anniversary Saturday, March 27, 2004.

The public is invited to join the festivities, which will include music from DJ Rocque Ranaldi, snacks, door prizes, an art contest and Hellboy trivia. All events are free.

A happy coincidence for the shop is its anniversary's proximity to the worldwide release of the Hellboy feature film. Based on the long-running series of graphic novels by Mike Mignola, indie comic fans have been anxiously anticipating what looks to be a much better than average comic film. Directed by Hellboy fan Guillermo del Toro (Blade II, The Devil's Backbone) and starring Ron Perlman (City of Lost Children), Hellboy has more in common with horror writer H.P. Lovecraft and The X-Files than Superman or Green Lantern.

Laura Marsh, owner of TBCG, has been one of Hellboy's biggest promoters in the comic world this past year. "They're just such cool books," she says. "They've consistently been our best selling series of graphic novels. I hope folks who dig the film will check out the books, too. They're awesome!" Marsh is such a big fan, she stood on line for hours at the San Diego Comicon last summer to get a monkey sketch from Hellboy creator Mike Mignola for the store's collection. "We're hoping he'll come to Santa Fe for a store signing soon," she offers, "but if the movie blows up he might be too busy. At least we've got a memento proving 'we knew him when.'"
